As the country eagerly awaits the arrival of President Biden’s second State of the Union address, the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. is undergoing a major renovation – one that’s sure to leave a sour taste in the mouths of taxpayers everywhere. The renovation, of course, is a massive fence, erected to protect the President from… well, from whom exactly? The peaceful, law-abiding citizens of the country he was elected to lead? The very people he is supposed to represent and protect? That remains a mystery.
But let’s be real, we all know the answer. The fence is being put up because the President is afraid of his own people. Why else would a man who has spent the better part of a year (and counting) insisting that the southern border wall is “immoral” and “ineffective” suddenly decide that a fence around the Capitol is necessary? It’s quite the 180, and one that leaves many wondering if the President truly believes in the principles he so vehemently espouses.
Of course, the irony of this situation is not lost on anyone. The President, who has publicly decried the southern border wall as a symbol of hate and division, is now using a fence to protect himself. And let’s not forget the fact that this fence, unlike the southern border wall, is being paid for by taxpayers. The President and his allies may try to downplay the cost, but we all know the truth. This fence is going to be expensive, and the American people are going to foot the bill.
But wait, there’s more! It turns out that the President isn’t only building fences to protect himself at the Capitol. No, he’s also building one around his Delaware vacation home. And the best part? This fence is being funded through a government contract via the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). So not only are taxpayers paying for the President to protect himself from the people he is supposed to represent, but they are also paying for him to take a break from it all at his vacation home. The hypocrisy of it all is truly astounding, but not surprising.
And yet, despite all this, Democrats remain strangely silent. They don’t seem to care about the blatant hypocrisy of it all, and instead are content to let the “garbage media” carry their water for them. The migrant crisis at the southern border, which has been exacerbated by the President’s own policies, continues to rage on, but all anyone seems to care about is the fence around the Capitol.
It’s a sad state of affairs when the leader of a country is more concerned with protecting himself from his own people than he is with protecting the country as a whole. But that’s where we are, and it’s a reality we must face head-on. The President may be able to hide behind his fence, but the problems of this country cannot be so easily shielded from view. The President must address the number of crises that have developed over the past year, including the migrant crisis at the southern border. He must be held accountable for his actions, and for the consequences of those actions.
So as the country gears up for another State of the Union address, let us remember that the fence around the Capitol is not just a physical barrier, but a symbol of everything that is wrong with this country. It is a symbol of fear and division, of hypocrisy and waste. It is a symbol of a leader who is more concerned with his own safety than he is with the safety and well-being of the people he was elected to lead.
